Free Art Friday is a global Art movement where artists (anyone) leave their art in public places for others to find and keep. It might be on a stop sign held up by a magnet or on a park bench. It will have a tag on it that gives the artist’s email address or website so you can learn more about that artist.
There is one particular artist that I have been teaching all my students about and his name is “EVEREMAN”. He is a local Atlanta artist whose day job is that of a furniture designer. But, he is also a street artist. He goes by the name Evereman and his art is called Evereman.
The Evereman art project began in Atlanta about 10 years ago. His message is that art is for everyone and that we should cooperate with each other rather than compete against one another. Evereman leaves his art around Atlanta and on the back of the art there is a little stamp that says "4U". When he leaves an Evereman somewhere he tweets a photo of it and gives a clue where it is so you can go find it. Then it is yours to keep. Check out this video...
The Evereman project has become so big that the artist now hosts production parties.
Followers get to help him make the art then “drop” the art all around town or even out of town. At www.evereman.com you can check out the Sightings tab to see where people have left or found Everemen.
I went to a production party and brought back 10 Everemen and
6 Ms. Atl’s (she is another Free Art Friday artist) for our students at MBES.
This Friday May 17, 2013, I will be “hiding” the Everemen and Ms. Atl’s around
the school (in classrooms, on the playgrounds, anywhere) for our students and
teachers to find. Students and teachers that find an Evereman will stop by the
art room so I can take a photo of the finder with the art.
Check back to see how it goes! The students are so excited!
ART IS FOR Everyone. Art is Everywhere.
